dsm-firmenich PostNL sets sights on winning both sprint and mountain stages in the Giro d'Italia: Jakobsen and Bardet present

And on we goooooo! dsm-firmenich PostNL has also finalized the eight names for the Giro d'Italia. The team is clearly betting on two fronts, with Romain Bardet as the leader for the general classification and Fabio Jakobsen as the sprint leader. The team announced this in a message on the team's website.

"The battles over the cobblestones and climbs in the classics are over, the peloton has competed against each other in the stage races at the beginning of the season and now one of the toughest challenges in cycling awaits the peloton: the Giro d'Italia," the team builds up the tension gently, before announcing the names and their respective roles.

With Jakobsen and Lund Andresen, dsm-firmenich PostNL has two potential sprint aces, Bardet as a podium contender

"We have ambitions for great podium results in the sprints with Fabio as our finisher," explains coach Matt Winston. "Our sprint group has shown great progress in the recent Tour of Turkey. So, it should be possible. We also aim to achieve the best possible overall classification with Romain as our captain in the high mountains, while also focusing on the opportunities to compete for stage wins and top results in hilly stages. To reach our goals, we need to work well together as a group during the race, ride as a unit, and be willing to do everything for each other during these three weeks. Hopefully, we'll consistently be visible at the front." Should Jakobsen not always be present, as was the case in Turkey, the team still has Tobias Lund Andresen as a backup. And as he showed then, he can win too.

Looking forward to the fight for the pink jersey - or perhaps the other podium spots - Bardet is already excited. "I first discovered the Giro with the team in 2021," he explains in the same communique. "I've ridden it twice so far and both times I really enjoyed it, so I'm happy and very motivated to try again this year. Personally, I hope to be consistent throughout the three weeks, perform at my best, and fight for the win in the mountain stages. We'll see where that takes us in the overall classification." Bardet's form is certainly promising, as he recently finished an impressive second at Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
