A bad day to have a bad day. That was the case for Daan Hoole of Decathlon CMA CGM on Thursday, during the sixth stage of the Tour de France. The Dutch rider had to vomit while on his bike early in the race, even before the climb up the Col du Tourmalet. Hoole had been crucial to Olav Kooij the day before in the sprint setup, but he wasn’t really able to help general classification leader Paul Seixas in the sixth stage—the first test for the GC contenders.
After a few hours of racing, we saw the fast rider riding for a French team suddenly swerve off his bike and vomit on the asphalt. Not a pleasant experience, knowing that climbs like the Aspin and Tourmalet were still ahead. Hoole was therefore dropped relatively early by his own standards.
Fortunately, along with his teammates and compatriots Kooij and Cees Bol, Hoole did manage to reach the finish line, more than 43 minutes behind stage winner Tadej Pogacar. Luckily for Hoole, the next two days on the schedule are relatively flat, during which he should be able to recover a bit more than he would after a grueling mountain stage of the Tour de France.
