🎥 Frustrated Thymen Arensman arrived late to the Tour de France time trial starting platform

The time trial in the Tour de France is a major goal for many riders. Josh Tarling, Filippo Ganna, Daan Hoole... They had all posted excellent times, but Thymen Arensman surely wanted to put in a strong performance as well. His start, however, was far from ideal: the Dutch rider from Netcompany INEOS arrived late at the starting podium.

Arensman’s teammates had already shown what was possible in this time trial. Tarling and Ganna had posted good times, but still had to concede a bit to the better climbers. You can certainly count Arensman among them. The Dutchman finished second in the Giro d’Italia time trial and saw a great opportunity for a strong result in Évian-les-Bains.

But things went wrong right from the start. On the starting platform, the clock was ticking down for the climber, but he was nowhere to be seen. It wasn’t until after his official start signal that he rolled onto the podium. He first had to be stopped, after which he was allowed to go. With a frustrated gesture, he rolled onto the road, about ten counts after he was supposed to have left.

According to information from NOS reporter Sebastiaan Timmerman, the mistake was Netcompany INEOS’s own fault. They reportedly weren’t paying attention, which caused the Dutch rider to arrive at the starting platform too late.
