Afonso Eulálio crashed badly in the eighteenth stage of the Giro d'Italia. The young Portuguese rider from Bahrain Victorious suddenly found himself on the ground as the peloton was setting the pace towards the final sprint, in pursuit of the chasing group. Eulálio got back on his bike in pain.

Eulálio's crash, which also involved Hartthijs de Vries (Unibet Rose Rockets) and Gianmarco Garofoli (Soudal Quick-Step), occurred in a feed zone in the final 50 kilometers of the stage.
Eulálio lay on the ground with a face contorted in pain, but was eventually able to continue fairly quickly. He was brought back to the peloton by teammate Robert Stannard, where the finale was just heating up.

Will Eulálio lose the white jersey in the Giro as well, after losing the pink one?

The 24-year-old Eulálio wore the pink leader’s jersey for no fewer than nine days in this Giro, and when he had to hand it over to Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike) after fourteen days, he was awarded the white youth jersey in return.
In the young rider classification, however, Eulálio also faces competition from Vingegaard’s team, as luxury domestique Davide Piganzoli has closed the gap on the Portuguese rider to just over two minutes in that classification. The Italian will have the chance to take the white jersey on Friday and Saturday.
The balance of power seems to favour Piganzoli, who climbed the final mountain stages with the best riders, even after he had launched Vingegaard. Eulálio, for his part, seemed to be slowly running out of steam, although he still had the energy to attack in the stage following his crash.

Ghebreigzabhier also crashes in Giro d'Italia.

Eulálio is fifth in the general classification. He was not the only one to hit the ground in the eighteenth stage. Earlier in the stage, Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier also crashed for Lidl-Trek. He slid off the track in a bend.
