The 61st edition of the Giro Ciclistico della Valle d'Aosta-Mont Blanc lost all its glamour on day 1 with the death of Italian promising rider Samuele Privitera. After the Italian U23 riders' race was canceled on day 2, the event proceeded on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Jarno Widar, the great Belgian talent from Lotto, dominated with three stage wins in the mountains, after Filippo Agostinacchio had won the first stage. Widar won the GC by almost four minutes. However, the 19-year-old climber could hardly enjoy it. "Cycling isn't always a beautiful sport. It was a difficult edition this year, but I tried to make the best of it, and I'm glad I was able to get such a good result. Now I'm going home for two days before heading to Andorra to train at altitude. Then I hope to perform well in the Tour de l'Avenir."
