That Tibor del Grosso has some serious bike-handling skills goes without saying. The 21-year-old Dutchman from Alpecin–Deceuninck is practically glued to his bike and regularly shows off his talent during cyclocross season. But now he’s putting those skills to use on the road as well, with several strong results this spring. And after the Amstel Gold Race, the young rider decided to pull off yet another stunt.
If you’re a two-time U23 cyclocross world champion, you clearly know your way around a bike. We already saw his technical prowess in action at the Tour of Catalonia, where he unintentionally got away in stage 1. In a rain-soaked descent, he calmly rode away from the pack and was only caught in the final meters.
But the young rider from Alpecin-Deceuninck also loves a good joke. He often pulls off stunts in cyclocross races, and during the amateur edition of the Amstel Gold Race, he did just that again. Riding among amateurs, he was filmed by Unibet Tietema Rockets founder Josse Wester. The video shows how Mathieu van der Poel's teammate cycled up the entire Eyserbosweg on one wheel. On two wheels it’s already one of the toughest climbs in the Netherlands... let alone when you’re doing it on one (sometimes even with one hand)!

Tour de Tietema

That gives Wester yet another piece of content for the YouTube channel Tour de Tietema. Together with Bas Tietema and Devin van der Wiel, the trio rose to fame by coming up with fun challenges for riders during the Tour de France, like a wheelie challenge. In 2021, for instance, Max Walscheid rode an impressive 174 meters on one wheel in Andorra. But Del Grosso has just taken it to the next level. His teammate Mathieu van der Poel also has some tricks up his sleeve, he once unveiled a new Canyon bike by doing a wheelie on it.
