Matej Mohoric was in contention on behalf of Bahrain Victorious for victory in the final stage of the Tour de France, and it took a lot of effort. The Slovenian had to drop out on the final climb up Montmartre, even though he had almost given his last breath to catch up with Wout van Aert in the descent. Interviews with Mohoric are always insightful, and this one was no exception. “We live for days like this. We work all year for this, and unfortunately, I just fell short of the stage win,” said the descent specialist, who once again demonstrated his skills on the wet cobblestones of Paris.
“I hoped I could hang on during the last climb up Montmartre and then give it my all in the descent, because I didn't care if I went to the hospital or to dinner. But the others were too strong,”
he said about Van Aert and his compatriot Pogacar.
“This lap was all about the legs. I think Tadej was the strongest, as he has been throughout the Tour. But he can't risk everything in the corners either. Wout showed on the climbs that he was just as strong, and he could take more risks on the descent.”

Mohoric finishes Tour de France with good feeling
For Mohoric, however, his third place in Paris is also very valuable. “It means a lot to the whole team. We had a difficult start to the year. We all work very hard and strive for excellence, so I would like to thank everyone. We spend four weeks away from our families, and that's tough.”
“Actually, yesterday's stage was my goal with a perfect course,” Mohoric revealed. “But after two kilometers, I had a problem with my wheel, and I kept going instead of changing it. Because then I couldn't keep up with the group at the front. In the end, I managed to stay with them, but I still had to change because the problem got worse.”
“I was very angry with the staff in the evening, and I want to apologize for that. I wanted to accomplish something in this Tour, and I've now achieved that,” Mohoric concluded on a positive note.
