On day four of the Critérium du Dauphiné, an individual time trial of 17.4 kilometers is scheduled. Along the way, the riders must tackle a tricky climb of almost two kilometers at more than eight percent, which could prove crucial for the stage result. IDLProCycling.com outlines the possible scenarios for you!

Course time trial stage 4 Critérium du Dauphiné 2025

The time trial in the Critérium du Dauphiné can be divided into three sections: a section before the climb, the climb from Les Freydieres, and the section towards the finish in Saint-Péray.
From Chames-sur-Rhône, we follow the river towards Les Freydierses, where the road climbs 1.6 kilometers at a gradient of 9.4 percent—similar to the Mur de Huy—before passing the halfway point in Toulaud.
The road then descends slightly to the finish in Saint-Péray, which means that speeds will be high despite the slight headwind.

On day one, we already got a taste of what to expect later in the stage race, but the time trial is still the first real test for the GC contenders in the Critérium du Dauphiné. This brings us to the big three: Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step), Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates-XRG), and Jonas Vingegaard of Visma | Lease a Bike.
Evenepoel is the reigning Olympic and world time trial champion and, therefore, has an advantage over his rivals. However, Pogacar and Vingegaard have, of course, already proven on several occasions that they are extremely good at time trials. It will be important for all of them to go full throttle.

There are certainly some outsiders, too. What about the strong Americans Magnus Sheffield (INEOS Grenadiers) and Matteo Jorgenson (Visma | Lease a Bike)? Jorgenson could well turn out to be the fourth contender in this Dauphiné, and Sheffield is also someone who should not be underestimated on a time trial bike.
In the Tour of the Basque Country, we also saw that Max Schachmann (Soudal Quick-Step), Florian Lipowitz (Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe), and Victor Campenaerts (Visma | Lease a Bike) are good in time trials. We know this from past performances of other riders such as Fred Wright (Bahrain Victorious) and Ben Healy (EF Education-EasyPost).
The GC contenders will all have to dig deep, and we have seen promising performances in time trials in the past from the likes of Carlos Rodriguez (INEOS Grenadiers), Lenny Martinez (Bahrain Victorious), Max Poole (Picnic PostNL), leader Ivan Romeo (Movistar) and Harold Tejada (XDS-Astana). Like Lipowitz, the latter two secured a good position in the GC thanks to their breakaway on Tuesday, which also included Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Deceuninck). Will the Dutchman put himself to the test again?
