Although Matthew Brennan is only nineteen years old, he has already won his fourth professional race in 2025. His stage win in the Tour de Romandie was also his third at WorldTour level. The super-talented rider from Visma | Lease a Bike is raising the bar every day and showing that very few men can match his speed in a tough finish. Are there any limits for the young British sprinter?
With 3,000 altitude meters, it was still uncertain whether Brennan could compete for the stage win. "When I reached the top of the climb, I knew I had good legs and would make it to the finish," he said in the flash interview. The inexperienced youngster got excellent support from his team. "The guys kept me in a very good position at the start; they kept me out of trouble. In the final, I managed to stay on the right wheels. It was very chaotic, and it was a tricky finish. I had to use much energy but saved enough for the final sprint."
At that point, he had to go it alone, but like a pro, he kept himself in an excellent position. It seemed to go smoothly in the challenging final, but the 19-year-old fast rider denies that. "It's pretty tough when you're fighting to stay on the wheel. But I managed to keep myself in a good position. In the end, I won by more margin than expected, but in those moments, you just have to react to the situation."

The Sky is the Limit for Brennan: "It is nice to experience this"

This is Brennan's fourth victory. His career is currently progressing rapidly. "It is very special. We really wanted to achieve something in this race, and the fact that we did it here is remarkable. Everyone on the team is very pleased." The sky is the limit, it seems. But are there any limits for the man from Darlington? "I have no idea; even my coaches don't know, I think. We're exploring the limits, and it is nice to experience this."
Brennan has already achieved his goal for this week with a stage victory. But the leader's jersey is a wonderful bonus. What is his plan for the coming week? "Winning another stage would be really cool, of course," he says. There are two more opportunities for the fast riders in the coming days, but he will have to survive some serious climbs. But besides his personal ambitions, he is also there as a domestique. "Hopefully, I can support Jørgen in the hills. I am really looking forward to the days ahead."
