Groupama-FDJ announced on Monday which eight riders from the team will be at the start of the Vuelta a España on Saturday. The French team is sending two potential GC contenders, David Gaudu and Guillaume Martin, to the race, while the rest of the selection has been chosen to provide balance.
Gaudu will be hoping for a repeat of last year, when he managed to salvage his season with a sixth place in the GC. In 2020, he won two stages in the Vuelta and finished eighth, so his track record in two participations is excellent. Martin also finished in the top 15 in each of his three participations.
Molard wore the red jersey once again, while Küng scored his first Grand Tour stage win of his career in Madrid last season. Rémi Cavagna won a stage in 2019 and is back again this year.
Three young talents complete the selection. The fast all-rounder Thibaud Gruel has already made quite an impression this season and could well be one of the revelations of the race. Brieuc Rolland and Clement Braz Afonso are climbers.
