Davide Piganzoli confirmed his own progress by finishing sixth on the day. The Italian is now also in sight of the white jersey .
Piganzoli did the final pull before Vingegaard launched his attack, after which he briefly reset and then latched on to the other GC riders. "I had already been dropped for a bit and then just decided to keep riding with the other guys".
"We started with a good plan: to win the stage with Jonas in the pink jersey. We did that, and that is really good for our team," he said to Eurosport.
"It is going very well in this Giro and I am looking forward to what is still to come," said the Italian, who came over from Polti VisitMalta and is now eighth overall. "My position? I am not dreaming, Iโm just doing my best as well as possible. What I mainly want is to win the pink jersey with Jonas".

Vingegaard seems keen to go for white with Piganzoli
"It is great to experience this. He told me: if I want, I can go for myself. That says enough about how special he is," Piganzoli said of his team leader, with sports director Marc Reef telling RAI that the Italian may indeed be able to target the white jersey.
With Giulio Pellizzari having dropped 18 minutes on Tuesday, only Afonso Eulรกlio still sits ahead of Piganzoli in the fight for white. The Portuguese rider from Bahrain Victorious, who spent a long time in the pink jersey from a breakaway,
is 2:17 ahead of the
Visma | Lease a Bike rider .
"Davide might be able to go for the white jersey. He has done so much for me. If I can help him, I would love to do that," Vingegaard said afterwards to Sporza about his younger team-mate.
