Jonathan Milan won the Utsunomiya Japan Cup Criterium on Saturday. The traditional warm-up for the Japan Cup, which will be held on Sunday, ended in a sprint. Milan was faster than Tudor sprinter Miká Heming and Vlad Van Mechelen of Bahrain Victorious. Sunday is normally for the climbers. Neilson Powless won the Japan Cup last year.
Milan briefly commented on his sprint victory via the official channels of Lidl-Trek. “It was a short race but it was really intense. The teamwork from everyone was perfect, I have to say, and I am really happy to take this victory for my guys in one of the last races of the year. It's also great to take this win in front of all of these people and the wonderful fans here in Japan. Everyone was telling me about it, but it is even more incredible than I imagined. Thank you for the warm reception here.”
