Wiebes crash causes domino effect on the track
All the riders behind Wiebes had nowhere to go, and ten to fifteen of them crashed hard into the barriers. Wiebes was then helped to her feet by the TeamNL staff, but she gave up, visibly in a great deal of pain. This means she can no longer become the Omnium world champion.
The speedy cyclist, who had already been crowned world champion in the scratch race in Shanghai, stepped onto the track at Chongming Island with a battered body. Her right side, in particular, appeared to have taken a serious beating, and Wiebes was clutching her ribs.
The Dutch rider was in good form, however, as evidenced by her three stage wins and overall victory in the Tour of Chongming Island, as well as her performance so far at the Track World Championships.
