It was certainly surprising news — for us, and probably Quinn Simmons, too. Steven de Jongh, for years was one of the key architects of a successful Lidl-Trek team, is leaving the German squad. Quinn Simmons, the only rider on the team still being coached by De Jongh, reacted on social media to the news that the Dutchman is leaving.

De Jongh announced the news himself on Saturday. “After 10 fantastic years, it’s time for me to say goodbye to Lidl-Trek. Looking back, I’m incredibly proud and grateful for the journey we’ve taken together. So many wonderful memories, unforgettable victories, and special moments that I will carry with me for the rest of my life,” said the former cyclist.

"So many wonderful memories, unforgettable victories, and special moments that I will carry with me for the rest of my life," continued De Jongh, who thanked all the riders and, in particular, former team manager Luca Guercilena. “He has been such an important part of this story. Without you, none of this would have been possible.”
"I wish Lidl and the entire team all the best for the future and success in this new chapter. As for me, I'm keeping my options open. Cycling has been such a big part of my life for so long, and I don’t think that will change,” said De Jongh, who has not yet announced what he plans to do next.

Simmons praises departing De Jongh on Instagram

In recent years, De Jongh has developed a special bond with Quinn Simmons, among others. The American was the only rider on the team still being coached by the Dutchman, ever since he turned pro as the junior world champion in 2020. “A tribute to Steven ,” Simmons posted on Instagram.
"Ever since I turned pro seven years ago, he's been the man behind my training sessions and in the car," said the training machine from Durango. “Everything I’ve accomplished is thanks to this man. I don’t know what the future holds for us, but one thing I know for sure: Lidl-Trek has lost one of the good ones , ” said Simmons, who recently finished fourth at the World Championships.
