Without Tadej Pogačar, the Tour of Lombardy was the perfect opportunity for many riders to win a Monument. Tom Pidcock knew this too and joined the key attacks, but ultimately had to concede defeat to Paul Seixas. The Frenchman became the youngest winner ever of Il Lombardia. This was only Pidcock’s second time racing the Tour of Lombardy, and he ultimately finished sixth. After the race, the British rider from Pinarello-Q36.5 spoke to
Eurosport . “I was in a bad position when we started the penultimate climb. Because of that, I had to work really hard right from the start,” he began.
"Then I went a little too deep in Paul's slipstream. I paid the price for that," Pidcock said honestly. “I actually felt really good today, but on that climb I went too deep, hit the wall, and that was it. But yeah, it was okay,” he summed up after the race.

So Pidcock saw firsthand just how good Seixas was. “He just set his own pace—a fast one—and yes, he was incredibly strong,” said Pidcock.
"I think I was also at a disadvantage because I didn't know the route very well—it's the first time I've done it this way on the way to Como," Pidcock added. "So that's definitely a disadvantage. But hey, no excuses—I just wasn't strong enough, and that's just the way it is."
Pidcock’s season isn’t over yet, by the way. The British rider, who won’t be competing in cyclocross this winter, will be on the starting line of the Tour of Guangxi on Tuesday. The Chinese stage race is the final WorldTour event of the 2026 season, and with a finish on a punchy climb, that race should suit him well.
