Matteo Jorgenson crashed hard in the
Amstel Gold Race exactly one month ago on Tuesday, breaking his collarbone and ending his Ardennes Classics campaign on the spot. Recovery is going well for the American
Visma | Lease a Bike rider though — he is already back at an altitude training camp in the Sierra Nevada with several teammates.
Jorgenson
broke his collarbone on 19 April in the Amstel Gold Race, bringing his Ardennes campaign and his main spring goal to an immediate end. He underwent surgery quickly and was
back on the turbo trainer after just five days, riding at 138 watts.
For the first few days he kept things indoor, but by May 1, barely two weeks after his crash, Jorgenson was already doing two-hour rides around Nice. Then on May 12 he was spotted at
altitude in the Sierra Nevada, alongside Wout van Aert, Bruno Armirail and Edoardo Affini.
There, the American has already been putting in some solid days in the saddle, including a six-hour ride with 3,600 metres of climbing. His
Tour de France selection is therefore unlikely to be in any doubt, just as
Visma | Lease a Bike managed to get Timo Kielich back on track for the Giro after his own collarbone fracture in In Flanders Fields.
Jorgenson is set to ride the Tour de Suisse in the lead-up to the
Tour de France. This year the race is made up of five stages, where he will come up against Tadej Pogačar.
