The weather is always a topic of discussion at the Tour de France. So far, the 2026 edition has mainly been about wildfires and heat protocols starting on day three, but it’s already a topic of discussion in Barcelona on Saturday as well. At various points along the course, fences and banners have been blown over, while Uno-X narrowly avoided a crash during the reconnaissance ride.
With the race starting by the sea, riders will need to watch out for gusts of wind in various spots, which occasionally blow in from the Mediterranean Sea. On the final climb to Montjuic, too, it will be windy in places where the wind has free rein.
Some teams had already experienced this during the reconnaissance ride. Uno-X encountered fences that had fallen over just before a section. Fortunately, the Norwegians and Danes managed to stay upright, but
as Jonas Abrahamsen’s video on Instagram shows, it was a bit of a scare.
After Saturday’s windy conditions, starting Monday, attention will turn to the heat and the intense wildfires raging in other parts of Catalonia. The A.S.O., the organization behind the Tour de France, may have to consider, in some places, how to ensure the race can proceed safely.
