Tom Pidcock is thinking about a future without cyclocross: 'That doesn’t help me personally'

Follow us on GoogleTom Pidcock has been impressing again in various cycling disciplines these past few weeks, but he may be cutting back from three to two. The British rider from Pinarello-Q36.5 told WielerFlits that he may be stepping away from cyclocross to avoid taking on too much.

Pidcock became the world cyclocross champion in the United States in 2022, but the last time he competed in a cyclocross race was back in early 2024. At that time, he raced in Benidorm, still wearing the INEOS jersey.

He hasn’t raced cyclocross yet for his new team, Pinarello-Q36.5. It seemed like he wanted to do so again this coming winter, but Pidcock appears to have changed his mind. “It’s certainly a bit early to ask that question. But no, I don’t think I’ll be racing cyclocross this winter,” he told WielerFlits.
"At the end of the 2025 road season, I thought it would be nice to get back into cyclocross. But right after I finished my last road race, I was like, ‘Nah, maybe not. It’s just too much work,’" the Brit says.

It’s even possible that he’ll never race again. “I’m not going to say ‘no’ to that. But right now, things aren’t looking good for cyclocross at the Olympics, are they? In any case, that doesn’t help me personally in making a comeback to cyclocross. If cyclocross gets a spot at the Games, then I do think I’ll still be racing,” he says from Canada, where he is competing in the GP Quebec and Montreal.
Cyclocross was in the running for a spot at the 2030 Winter Games in France for quite some time, but it doesn't look like the sport will actually be included in the event.
