On Saturday, in distant Nannup, Western Australia, Marianne Vos clinched the gravel world title. The 39-year-old Dutch rider had a perfect race, after which she crossed the finish line with her arms raised in the air. Her entourage was waiting for her there, creating some beautiful scenes.

Vosβ€”who had already won the gravel world championship in Leuven in 2024β€”has recently been preparing meticulously for the World Championships in Australia. She received full support from her team, Visma | Lease a Bike.

Vos's family made the long trip to Australia to support

Coach Jan Boven also traveled to the Perth area, located in western Australia. He was waiting for Vos at the finish line to give him a well-deserved hug.
Vos’s partner, Tennigloβ€”her rock and support, and herself a professional cyclist through 2021 with teams including Rabobank, FDJ, and Jaycoβ€”also traveled with her to Australia. So Vos threw her arms around her, too.

The most beautiful moment captured by the UCI at the finish line was undoubtedly the intense embrace with her brother Anton , who was on the other side of the world. The Vos family lost their father, Henk, this yearβ€”he was a regular feature at Marianne's races.
Afterward, a visibly moved Vos, said that this title meant a lot to her, despite the overflowing trophy case she had already managed to fill so far.

Serious crash affects Vos's Dutch teammate

The Gravel World Championships were marred by a serious crash involving Dutch favourite Geerike Scheurs, who lost control on a wet descent and was taken away in pain. Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio also crashed and was confirmed as a non-finisher.
The event was further disrupted by a last-minute UCI rule change forcing some riders into the elite category instead of their age groups, prompting criticism over the timing. Read more
