Still, the yellow-and-blacks did have a plan. Victor Campenaerts was part of the early breakaway, and on the Ghisallo, Louis Barré and Matteo Jorgenson launched a strong two-man attack. Unfortunately, Campenaerts had already been reeled in by then, so he was unable to lend a hand in the subsequent phase of the race.

Jorgenson was joined by Quinn Simmons, Brandon McNulty, and Christian Scaroni, but they were eventually caught again before the final lap in Como.
The American did manage to make one more comeback to help Piganzoli and Ben Tulett, who finished 18th, but that was the end of his race. Jorgenson ultimately finished 23rd.
Jorgenson is going to enjoy Lake Como with a beer in hand
After crossing the finish line, the American rider from Visma | Lease a Bike spoke with Eurosport’, at the end of yet another long season. “It’s nice to finish this way. I think it was a fun day. We tried out some interesting tactics, and we weren’t the favorites for the race because it’s such a tough and fair race… but it was a great way to wrap things up.”
"I had a blast out there, and it was just a wonderful day," said Jorgenson. "What a place to wrap up the season—in Como, by the lake, with a beer in my hand. It really doesn't get any better than that," laughed the ever-cheerful rider from Boise.
After such a big season, few riders deserve it more!
