He has not been in the limelight this
Giro d'Italia, but the young Markel Beloki spent a long time in the
top 10 and top 11. After a weaker stage on Saturday, the Spaniard from
EF Education-EasyPost starts the final week in 18th. But he has come to the attention of Netcompany INEOS, and, according to Spanish media, the British team have now secured Beloki for next year.
Marca reported on Monday that the British outfit have signed the still only 20-year-old rider on a three-year contract. According to the Spanish outlet, the deal is already done. The son of former rider Joseba Beloki would therefore be moving on after three years at EF.
Beloki said to have joined prestigious agent
At EF Beloki made his WorldTour debut, where he gradually began to show his potential. This Giro has been a major breakthrough for the young Spaniard, where he has regularly been able to follow the best riders in the race.
According to Marca, Beloki’s agent, Giuseppe Acquadro, also played a major role in the transfer. The Italian has an impressive portfolio, and the fact that he now also represents the Spaniard says a great deal about his potential.
INEOS sign 'next Paul Seixas' Benjamin Novál
Earlier this week IDL Pro Cycling reported that Netcompany INEOS had
signed 17-year-old Benjamin Novál. Noval will make his WorldTour debut next year for the British team. He turns eighteen in October this year, meaning he will be among the youngest debutants in the sport's history.
INEOS have a long history of focusing on young and international talent to bolster their GC ambitions. With Dave Brailsford back at the helm and Geraint Thomas in the team car, the additions of Beloki and Novál might help the British outfit return to the very top of cycling.
