Thibault Guernalec was struck by a car during a training ride on Thursday, his team Arkéa‑B&B Hotels confirmed in
a brief statement on Friday. The 28-year-old Frenchman sustained multiple fractures and will therefore require a lengthy recovery. It is the second such incident this week, after earlier
Lorena Wiebes experienced a similar hit.
The Dutch rider from SD Worx‑ProTime posted a confronting photo of her bike after being struck by a car that then failed to stop, prompting an angry reaction: “For the person who hit me and didn’t stop: fortunately I’m doing pretty OK, but this could have been much worse. Especially because I was hit from behind.”
Wiebes was eventually helped by two people who did stop for her. In a podcast of In de Waaier she added: “I still have to watch out, because right after the crash I had some headache. That seems to be subsiding. Apart from some bruises – but it’s manageable. I hope this was just a shock reaction, that the driver drove on. But I almost think something else was at play.”

Guernalec suffers fractures and concussion in collision
For Guernalec the damage was significantly greater after a frontal collision with a car in Lamballe. He suffered a broken lumbar vertebra and a broken finger. In addition, he sustained a concussion and even lost consciousness briefly.
The incident happened when a car drove head-on into him. The precise circumstances are not further clear. Guernalec must now schedule considerable time for recovery — and it remains uncertain where he will ride in 2026, as
his current team stops operating after 2025. According to
Le Télégramme, TotalEnergies is the most likely destination.
