Despite having a year remaining on his contract, Filippo Ganna has been linked to a shock signing that could see the time trial specialist leaving Netcompany INEOS, cyclinguptodate reports. The Italian has been reported to be close to signing a move to Lidl-Trek.

The move is rumoured to be taking place this winter with Ganna possibly joining Lidl-Trek as soon as 2027, a year before his current contract ends. This move would be a blow to British team Netcompany INEOS, who have already lost riders to retirements and departures.

Ganna has been key rider for Netcompany Ineos

Ganna signed with the team in 2019 (then Team INEOS), and has been a powerhouse for them in stage and day races. The 30-year-old has eight stage wins in the Giro d'Italia alone, and was the time trial world champion in 2020 and 2021. He is also a competent classics specialist, winning Dwars door Vlaanderen in 2026.
Most recently, Ganna took second place in the mens time trial world championship in Montréal, behind Remco Evenepoel, as well as winning the mixed relay time trial as part of the Italian team.

Evenepoel comments on Ganna after World Championships

Ganna finished second to Remco Evenepoel in Montreal, 57 seconds behind despite delivering his best-ever 45-minute power. He felt the course wasn’t ideal but acknowledged it was the same for everyone.
Evenepoel said he knew late on that his lead was big and joked that Ganna “says that every time" suggesting the course’s many turns made power comparisons tricky. He expressed respect for Ganna while vowing to chase a fifth title next year.
