Just a few more nights of sleep and then it’s finally here: the Giro d’Italia. We won’t be seeing Tadej Pogacar or Jonas Vingegaard in the first grand tour of the year, but we will see another major star. Primoz Roglic will be on the hunt for his second Giro title, and he’ll be supported by a heavy-duty squad, according to the Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe website. Although the team includes a former winner in Jai Hindley and last year’s runner-up
Daniel Felipe Martínez, all eyes are on
top favorite Roglic. “Our ambition for the Giro is clear: we want to compete for the general classification and race in an exciting way for our fans,” said sports director Rolf Aldag in a
press release. “We know how tough this Giro will be, and we’re aware that all eyes will be on Primoz. That’s why we’re going to the start in Albania with a strong and balanced team. Primoz is in excellent shape, and the group around him has trained well, giving us great tactical depth.”
There’s certainly no shortage of climbing talent in Red Bull–BORA–hansgrohe’s Giro lineup. Roglic will be backed in the high mountains by the aforementioned Hindley and Martínez, as well as Giulio Pellizzari, three riders who’ve all proven to be excellent climbers. Still only 21, Pellizzari made a big impression last year by finishing second on stage 16. He also came second in the mountains classification, behind Tadej Pogacar. Giovanni Aleotti has also shown he’s a solid climber.

Slovenian close friends Roglic and Tratnik head toward home
On the flat terrain, the Slovenian star will receive support from
Gianni Moscon and Nico Denz, two well-known power riders in the peloton. And of course, we can’t forget
Jan Tratnik: Roglic’s close friend will once again, just as he so often has, try to guide him to victory in a major race. The Slovenians
have known each other for a long time, and this will be the first time they line up together at the Giro. That makes it even more special, as stage 14 finishes in Nova Gorica, on home soil in Slovenia.
