Filippo Ganna announced earlier this month that he will focus on road cycling starting in 2025. The Italian time trialist from INEOS Grenadiers was still combining his job on the road with track cycling, but now he will focus on the classics, thanks in part to new Dutch input.
Ganna will change course next season on several levels. "On the training aspect, I will continue to work with Dario Cioni, who will remain a reference for the time trials," he explained to TuttoBiciWeb. "But for the athletic part, I will have a new specialist on my side, the Dutchman Dajo Sanders." The coach transferred from Team DSM in 2022. From now on, he will work more closely with the two-time world time trial champion and should also be part of the significant metamorphosis of INEOS Grenadiers. "We hope it will yield what it is intended to yield. I think mainly about cycling," the Italian giant remains down-to-earth about the changes.
In addition to reducing time on the track, Ganna will also focus more on the spring classics: Paris-Roubaix and Milan-San Remo, which are high on the list of the man who finished second in La Primavera last year. "I will have considerable competition because Pogacar, Van der Poel, Van Aert, Evenepoel... It will be a battle between titans." Despite the tough competition, the Italian is boasting confidence. "The beauty of successes and defeats is that I have always progressed. The metrics don't lie."

Still, the track looms in the back of the INEOS Grenadiers driver's mind. "Primarily because track training remains in my program. An extra help and stimulus for the efforts, you could say." But will the Olympics be a contributing factor in the future? "I haven't thought about the Los Angeles 2028 Games yet. Several possibilities exist: the time trial, the road race, the track. Honestly, even a tenth world championship on the track would be nice."
