In-form Jorgenson does not want to think too much about the Tour in the Dauphiné: "I have confidence in a fit Vingegaard"

In the penultimate stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné, Primoz Roglic again proved to be the strongest. In the sprint of the thinned-out group of favorites, he was faster than anyone else, although Matteo Jorgenson did come close to the experienced Slovenian. The American riding for Visma | Lease a Bike finished in the same time as Roglic and was naturally very satisfied with this, as he expressed to the camera of Cycling Pro Net.

"It went very well, actually throughout the entire stage," began an extremely calm-looking Jorgenson. "During tough rides like this, I am always extra focused on conservative racing and conserving as much energy as possible in the opening phase, especially since I am a relatively heavy and large guy. After all, I also do not have much experience in riding stages with more than 4000 meters of climbing. All in all, it went very well. I think I can say that I have passed the test so far."

Jorgenson as possible leader in Tour de France? Time will tell

Jorgenson, who in March won the overall classification of Paris-Nice, then admitted to being somewhat surprised by his level in climbing. Heading into the epilogue, he is in an impressive second place in the standings, about one minute behind leader Roglic. "I can't deny that. I assumed this was going to be a very tough weekend for me, especially due to the succession of mountain stages. Hopefully, I can continue to discover my limits."

"Up to one kilometer from the finish, I wasn't really thinking about the stage win," concluded the man from California. "After that, it was cool to compete for the stage victory. Staying calm is very important, as is eating enough. Those are aspects I definitely want to focus on. Again, conservative racing."

The Tour de France also came up with the in-form Jorgenson, who will likely be one of the key players. "That's not really on my mind yet. For now, I am taking it day by day. But the reports I hear about Jonas Vingegaard are promising. I still have every confidence that he will be ready for the Tour. And, of course, I sincerely hope that. In that case, I would ride in service of Jonas and not have to put any pressure on myself."
