The rumor came out of nowhere at the end of April, and a few months later, there is nothing but silence surrounding Davide Piganzoli and his possible transfer to Visma | Lease a Bike. The 23-year-old Italian confirmed in an interview with Bici that he will definitely be leaving Polti VisitMalta after this season, but his future destination is still unknown. After a busy spring, we only saw Piganzoli in action in June after the Giro d'Italia. He finished his home race in May in fourteenth place and ended up second in La Route d'Occitanie. He also competed in the Andorra MoraBanc Clàssica, Giro dell'Appennino, and the Italian championship, followed by a well-deserved rest.
“I was tired and needed to stop for a while to catch my breath,” Piganzoli said of his absence of just over five weeks. “I didn't race at all in July and started again in Burgos in August. However, I still didn't feel good there. I spent three weeks at altitude training hard for the races in the latter part of the season.”

Piganzoli wants to say goodbye to Polti VisitMalta properly
The workload was high because Piganzoli wants to achieve results in the final part of this season. Polti VisitMalta, the team he has always ridden for since 2021, and where he came up through the youth program, desperately needs the UCI points. “I'm going to continue until the Tour of Lombardy, and maybe I'll still have the legs to make it to the Veneto Classic.”
That sounds promising, because Piganzoli returned to racing in September in good shape. He finished third in the GP Industria & Artigianato, eighth in the Giro della Toscana, and tenth in the Coppa Sabatini. “There are opportunities to score points, especially in the Tour of Luxembourg, so I have to be ready for that. I hope to win, which would be great for everyone.”

Piganzoli confirms he is leaving, but where to?
Piganzoli's drive for success stems from the fact that he only has a few months left with Polti VisitMalta. The Italian confirmed that he will be riding elsewhere in 2026. “I'm leaving, but we're waiting for the official announcement before I can say anything about it. The thought of leaving this team is strange. I grew up here, I'm very close to everyone.”
The move to another team will undoubtedly be a step forward.
Visma | Lease a Bike? We'll have to wait and see. “I'm going to miss Polti VisitMalta very much, but it's time to say goodbye. We'll part on good, very good terms.”
