Things looked dicey for Vingegaard when he punctured with just over 18 kilometers to go. The red jersey made the problem clear over his radio, and on the right side of the road cycling fans were treated to a masterclass in bike-swapping. Teammate
Ben Tulett, on a nearly identical-sized bike, braked, handed Vingegaard his bike, and gave him a push to get him going again.
The whole scene took less than five seconds, allowing Vingegaard to rejoin the group of favorites almost instantly. That was also thanks to teammate Matteo Jorgenson, who eased the pace at the front. As a result, Vingegaard lost no time in the general classification, helped as well by the stage finish being moved 8 kilometers earlier due to new protests in the finale.
