He is currently busy competing in the Tour of Germany, but Jonathan Milan has extended his contract with Lidl-Trek until 2029. The German-American team announced this on Friday in a press release. This is an essential move for the team, as there are few outstanding sprinters in the current cycling world.
The 24-year-old Italian joined Lidl-Trek last year, and the transfer proved to be a hit. The rider from Tolmezzo won the points classification in the Giro d'Italia last year, as he did in 2023, and repeated his performance in the Tour de France this year. During the same period, he won no fewer than nineteen races, including fourteen WorldTour victories.
“The atmosphere at Lidl-Trek is truly special,” said Milan, explaining his contract extension. “The people here have quickly become like a second family to me, and that makes a huge difference when you’re giving everything on the bike,” said Jonathan Milan. “We have already shared some incredible moments and I am really proud of what we have achieved together so far: multiple Grand Tour stage victories, leader’s jerseys, and always fighting together as one Team”
The team has really become like a home for the Italian. “So it felt like a natural decision to extend my contract until the end of 2029. The commitment Lidl-Trek has shown to me and the support and confidence they give me as I continue to develop as a rider keeps me motivated for what’s still to come.”
“I feel really lucky that I get to race together with this group of riders and I am constantly amazed by the work of my teammates and thankful for what they do to help me try to cross the line first. I truly believe that we can keep raising the bar and chase even bigger goals together.”

"With four more years to come we are excited to see just how high he can climb"

General manager Luca Guercilena is also satisfied. “Before we signed Jonny in 2024, we already knew he was a huge talent for the future, but in the two years since he has surpassed even our high expectations. Jonny has integrated seamlessly with the Team, and together with his leadout train he has created one of the most effective sprint set-ups in the peloton.”
“What he has achieved in just two seasons is remarkable, and with four more years to come we are excited to see just how high he can climb. His raw power and finishing speed are extraordinary, but equally impressive is his humility and the way he values his teammates. We are proud to continue this journey with him and confident that even greater victories lie ahead.”
