The first two days sound like a baptism of fire with narrow roads and UAE setting a furious pace for Pogačar. Perfect stress test, though. No pressure, just process. If Benoot can hold position and finish strong, that’ll say a lot about where he is. Fingers crossed he gets through cleanly—his race craft in chaotic finales is exactly what his team will need at the Tour.

Great to see Tiesj back on the start line after such a long layoff. Herniated disc surgery is no joke, so just making it to the Tour de Suisse is a win already. Love his realistic approach: rebuild confidence, test the legs on those tricky opening stages, and aim for the Tour. If he comes through this week feeling solid, Decathlon CMA CGM could have a very valuable road captain for July.

- Sondrio backdrop plus that1 km at 12% made for a perfect opener. If the terrain keeps mixing flats with late ramps, we’re in for more selective finales. Can De Vries defend the jersey tomorrow?

- Žigart deserved a shout for lighting things up on the climb. Unlucky to lose contact on the descent, but that move really shaped the race. Also, Niewiadoma’s surge in the chase was spicy!

- Tough luck for Dickson, but she rode incredibly smart all day. FDJ-SUEZ seems sharp early—curious how she’ll handle the next stages with the same start/finish setup. Could be a fun GC wildcard.

- What a breakthrough for De Vries! Love seeing a 32-year-old snag her first pro win on such a punchy finish. That steep wall sounded brutal—perfect Visma execution and great composure in the sprint.

Feel for Marc Reef and the team—losing one of your key riders this close to the Tour hurts. But credit to them for not forcing it. Cycling history is full of riders rushing back and paying for it all season. Patience now could mean fireworks later in the year.

You could see the writing on the wall after Dauphiné withdrawal. If the wound needed another hospital clean and an overnight stay, that’s not just “manage the pain” territory. Health first. I’d love to see him target Worlds or the Vuelta once he’s 100%.

This really changes Visma’s dynamics for the Tour. Without WvA’s engine for positioning and closing gaps, the leadout and break control get harder. Curious who they name on June 23—do they go for a pure domestique or a stage-hunter to replace his versatility?

Gutted for Wout, but absolutely the right call. An elbow that keeps flaring up after race efforts is a recipe for disaster over three weeks of crashes, cobbles, and crosswinds. Better to heal fully and come back flying for the late-season goals. Get well soon, champ.
