Mathieu van der Poel won the first stage of the Tour of Luxembourg this Wednesday, but his main goal lies ahead in Canada. There, the Dutch rider from Alpecin-Premier Tech hopes to become world champion, but ahead of that race, he has signed a sponsorship deal. From now on, he will serve as an ambassador for the clothing brand adidas.

Van der Poel has already partnered with several sponsors. Of course, he has a deal with bicycle brand Canyon—which also supplies bikes to Alpecin-Premier Tech—but he also partners with watch brand Richard Mille, car manufacturer Lamborghini, fitness tracker Whoop, and FLYINGGROUP, the private jet company that flies him from place to place during the cyclocross season.

So adidas is joining the mix. The German apparel brand will provide him with sports and casual wear. “The collection perfectly complements his active lifestyle off the bike—which includes running, golf, and fitness—and also offers the right pieces for his moments of relaxation,” the company said in a press release.
Van der Poel is proud of the new partnership. “Adidas has a rich history in cycling, and I’m proud to join the brand as an ambassador. Whether I’m training, recovering, or staying active outside of competition, sports are an important part of my daily life. For me, adidas offers the perfect combination of performance, comfort, and style, allowing me to switch effortlessly between training and relaxation.”
