It was reported widely across French media that the Montmartre climb would not appear in the 2027 Tour de France, with the final stage returning to its previous flat Champs-Élysées format. However, contradicting reports have now broken from Le Parisien, who said the climb was "tried and tested."

How will the final stage end?

The climb also featured in the Paris 2024 Olympic road race, where Evenepoel exploded the race and stormed to a win. That year, the final stage of the Tour de France took place in Nice, in order to avoid clashing with Olympic preparations in the capital.
It has been reported that the race will return to the traditional Champs Elysées sprint for the first time since 2023.

Plans for the future remain uncertain

The addition of Montmartre has been widely well-received; race favourites have been welcomed with crowds 5 or 6 rows deep upon entering the 18th arrondissement.
On the other hand, some fans have lamented the death of stages built for pure sprinters, perhaps remembering the golden age of Cavendish, Kittel, and Greipel.
The organisers have neither confirmed their plans for this years route, nor their plans for the future, so we could see Montmartre return in later editions.
The full route of the 2027 Tour de France will be announce live on October 22. IDL Pro Cycling will bring you all the updates as they are revealed.
