The dust has begun to settle on the Giro d’Italia. The final weekend delivered a dramatic climax, with Simon Yates (Visma | Lease a Bike) outduelling Mexico’s Isaac Del Toro from the much-criticised UAE Team Emirates-XRG. On Tuesday, Brandon McNulty from the Emirati squad shared his own perspective on the race.
McNulty cracked the top ten of a Grand Tour for the first time in his career. "Another Giro in the books. It was a pleasure to ride in support of Isaac and do everything we could to defend his pink jersey. In the end, we didn’t take the win, but I am sure Isaac will be back. I just want to thank him for 21 great days out there."
"From a personal point of view, I am really proud of my Giro," added the American. "For the first time in my career, I felt like I could contribute over the course of three weeks. I didn’t start the race thinking about riding for the GC myself. I just tried to stay as close to our leaders as possible. To end up ninth overall is definitely something I am proud of."

McNulty: "Cracking the top 10 in a Grand Tour was always a small career goal of mine"

"Of course, we all grow up dreaming of winning Grand Tours or becoming world champion, but you quickly realise there is a lot of ground to cover before that," McNulty explains.
"Finishing in the top 10 of a Grand Tour was always a small goal I had set for myself in my career, and honestly, I never thought I would actually manage it. I may not have been the eighth-strongest rider in this Giro, but luck is part of the game as well. I am just happy to have made it through with only a few stitches and some bumps and bruises."
