Mind-blowing Tour de l'Avenir power data of 19-year-old Lorenzo Finn proves he's a top talent to watch

Follow us on GoogleWith a grueling mountain stage still to come on Tuesday, the Tour de l'Avenir looks set to fall into Lorenzo Finn’s hands. The Italian supertalent from Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe dominated the Tour de l'Avenir on Monday in the mountain time trial, and anyone who sees the estimated figures for that performance will be blown away.

As the top favorite, Finn—still only nineteen years old—started the Tour de l'Avenir as the rider to watch. On the first day, he got off to a strong start with a third-place finish. He thenhandled the somewhat easier days calmly. The first truly important day would be Monday, when the mountain time trial was on the schedule.
The top Italian talent powered through it with flair. In fact, Finn left all his competitors more than half a minute behind, and only two riders finished within a minute of him. With that result, the Red Bull talent took the lead in the standings. Second-place Niels Driesen trails by 58 seconds, while Norway’s Kasper Haugland is 1.36 minutes behind.
And so, naturally, Finn was pleased afterward. “I’m incredibly happy with my first stage win here. The Tour de l’Avenir is a very important race for me and for the team. We’ve had some bad luck over the past few days, so it means all the more to take the victory and the yellow jersey now,” he said on his team’s website.

Finn delivers a huge Performance at Tour de l'Avenir mountain time trial
Monday’s time trial was anything but easy. “The climb was very tough, and then there was the altitude to contend with as well. But I paced myself well and felt good. We still have two important days ahead of us, so we need to stay focused,” Finn said, already looking ahead to the final two stages.
Just how impressive the Italian superstar was on Monday can be gauged based on the data available about him. Cycling blogger Lukáš Ronald Lukács did just that on X, and the results were staggering.
The Col de Pierre Carré, the climb that took center stage in Monday’s mountain time trial, is 11.5 kilometers long with an average gradient of 6.4 percent. Finn completed it in 24 minutes and 37 seconds. For a rider who weighs 59.1 kilometers, that translates to an average of 6.91 watts per kilo for nearly 25 minutes. At just nineteen years of age, Finn is certainly a rider to watch.
