Rumours of Ganna's move to Lidl-Trek grew and grew

Ganna’s transfer had been in the air for the past few weeks, after Lidl-Trek began making room on its roster for 2027.
The Italian time trialist was being linked more and more persistently every day to a move to the German team. Once team leader Giulio Ciccone had terminated his contract, the deal could go through.
At Lidl-Trek, Ganna isn’t so much hoping for major successes on the time-trial bike. The Italian speedster is primarily looking to make his mark in the classics.

In recent seasons, he has already shown his incredible potential in one-day races, but he hasn’t quite landed any major victories yet.

In the 2020 Giro d'Italia, however, Ganna already showed he was capable of more by winning a difficult mountain stage. Over the years, that potential has emerged on several occasions.
In 2026, Ganna claimed a big victory in the spring classic Dwars door Vlaanderen, his first win in a one-day race:
“We want to provide him with the environment and support he needs to continue pushing his limits,” team manager Andy Schleck said in a press release.
Netcompany INEOS has to swallow a bitter pill with the loss of Ganna. However, the fact that the British team is cooperating with his move to Lidl-Trek says it all about their affection for the Italian. “Grazie, Pippo,” read a short message posted Tuesday afternoon.
"Filippo Ganna will be leaving the team at the end of the 2026 season, after eight successful years together," the statement reads. "Pippo was a great teammate, and his generosity and good humor will be missed by everyone on the team."
"We wish him every success in the next chapter of his career and look forward to seeing him back on the road."
