Don't look for Tao Geoghegan Hart at the Tour de France in July. The Brit announced on Instagram that he is taking a week's rest after the Tour of Switzerland, where he fell ill, and will resume racing in August.
Geoghegan Hart also missed the 2024 Tour due to illness. “I really enjoyed the first stages of the Tour of Switzerland, it was my first time back in a WorldTour peloton this year,” he shared.
“Unfortunately, I came down with a mild chest infection over the last five days and felt increasingly unwell, even just trying to finish the race.” He ultimately placed 25th in the general classification.
That, even though he had just shown signs of improvement in early June at the Tour of Slovenia, where he finished third. “Sometimes it feels like my body is slowly getting back to my old level, and I definitely see glimpses of that,” he said, “but it turns out to be quite difficult to get all the pieces of the puzzle to fall into place at once. I’m looking forward to a week of rest and then some consistent training before racing again in August.”

Lidl-Trek aiming for multiple cards in the Tour de France

Lidl-Trek will focus on the sprints with Jonathan Milan in the upcoming Tour de France, while Mattias Skjelmose, despite a less-than-ideal buildup, will be given the chance to go all-in for a strong overall classification. In addition, Thibau Nys is expected to be included for the transitional stages in the first and second week.
