After an incredibly thrilling sprint against top talent António Morgado - we had to wait a while after the finish together with the two protagonists for the final results - Laurenz Rex could call himself the winner of Le Samyn 2024. The 24-year-old Belgian from Intermarché-Wanty, who had already won last year's Dorpenomloop Rucphen, thus secured his first real professional victory. "Actually, I cheered a little too early. But I didn't see anyone next to me, so that's why," the winner remarked on the millimeter sprint in the flash interview. "I felt very good during the race and also had quite a lot of confidence, also from the team, which saw me as a leader."
Rex was also incredibly strong in the Omloop
"Vito (Braet, ed.) launched me at the right moment, but I knew I shouldn't go too early. The team worked hard all day anyway," continued the man who finished sixth in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad a few days earlier. "My brother (Tim Rex, ed.) also participated, so that was nice. I am taking my first professional victory here, and it is very special when my little brother is also there.
Rex concludes that the race - which was rocked by a crash and accompanying dismissal of top favorite Arnaud De Lie - was very nervous. "That also made it difficult to control. But luckily we did well as a team and managed to stay calm throughout the day. I also really wanted to perform well here because Le Samyn has been on my wish list for a long time."
