While most teams are busy finalizing their Tour selection, Cofidis had less cheerful news to report on Friday. Eddy Finé, the 27-year-old Frenchman riding for the French team, has been forced to end his professional career. Cofidis and Finé provided additional details.
Finé joined Cofidis in mid-2019 via Charvieu Chavagneux Isère Cyclisme, a French Continental team, and VC Villefranche Beaujolais, another French Continental team. He remained loyal to the French team for six years until he was forced to hang up his bike in 2025.
“In consultation with the team's medical staff, Eddy has made the difficult decision to end his sporting career,” reads a statement. “The rider is struggling with an abnormality in the iliac artery, a problem that is incompatible with top-level sport. Eddy had worked hard to return to competition after undergoing three operations since joining the team in 2019.”
“The entire team would like to thank him for his dedication and wish him all the best for the future,” the team continued. "He has a smile, a talent for motivation, and is a great teammate. Eddy has been a key figure on the Cofidis team for six seasons. Over the years, he has developed into a brave teammate who strives to give his best for the team in every race.

"No one wants to end their career like this," said Finé after being forced to retire from cycling

A problem with the iliac artery is therefore to blame. The Frenchman has already undergone several operations for this. “With repeated exertion, the artery becomes blocked, and residue builds up, leading to endofibrosis,” he explains. More operations followed but to no avail. “I had been struggling for a while, and we had made use of all options. I had no choice; I was forced to stop racing.”
“Of course, it's painful; no one wants to end their career like this,” the Frenchman continues. "I will be eternally grateful to this team, the only one I have ever known at a professional level. Ending your sporting career in this way is inevitably very painful. It was a forced decision, but I knew I had no other choice. It was a difficult time to get through. After that, there was inevitably a lot of frustration. I said goodbye to the team where I spent six years of my life."
Finé rode Paris-Roubaix twice in his career and had his only Grand Tour in the 2021 Vuelta a España. Unfortunately, he never won a professional race, although he came very close in the 2024 Tro-Bro Léon, finishing in fourth place. Best of luck in the future, Eddy!
