In a statement on the team's website, UAE Team Emirates - which boasts one of the two top favorites, Tadej Pogacar - has announced the participating seven-member squad. And it is a septet to relish... Pogacar is, of course, the main highlight of the team from the Emirates. The Slovenian, who dominated in his only race so far this season (Strade Bianche), looked ahead to La Primavera in the same announcement. "I couldn't have asked for a better start to the year than I hade in Strade Bianche," says the two-time Tour de France winner.
Pogacar knows the course and the finale of Milan-Sanremo well
"Moreover, the team is racing well, and we are achieving good results as a whole," he says, referring, for example, to the impressive performances of Tim Wellens and Brandon McNulty, both of whom will be present in Italy. "We want to stay on that path. I'm excited for
Milan-San Remo. The finish is not too far from where I live in Monaco so I know the last part of the race and the final climbs quite well."
According to Pogacar, Milan-San Remo is one of the hardest races to win. The versatile rider has already won many Monuments, but has not yet stood on the top step of the podium in the lengthy race. That could very well change on Saturday afternoon. "But the race can lead to all sorts of scenarios. We will definitely make a clear plan and put ourselves in the best possible position. It’s a race we really want to win."
