Van der Poel ultimately laughs off Kwaremont idiots, organizers want to help in punishing the perpetrators

Mathieu van der Poel was in a league of his own during Sunday's Tour of Flanders, witnessed by half of Flanders. The enthusiasm was mostly positive, filled with cheers, but unfortunately, there were also instances of booing, and not just from a few individuals... Beer was thrown as well.

"They hit me with beer a few times, but I was so locked into my race effort that it didn't really affect me," Van der Poel told NOS post-race. The Tour of Flanders organizers, however, are not taking these incidents lightly. CEO Tomas Van Den Spiegel, speaking to HLN, expressed a commitment to take legal action. "If we can identify those responsible for throwing beer, we will pursue civil action."

Van Den Spiegel pointed out that this wasn't an isolated incident. "We took similar steps during the Omloop after beer was thrown at Marianne Vos on the Muur van Geraardsbergen. The individuals involved were identified, and we pursued civil action in that case as well."

The Flemish Ardennes police also weighed in, as reported by HLN: "Although we didn't observe the incidents firsthand, they were captured on the race footage. We'll use this to draft a report and identify the suspects. The charges will be severe: assault and battery. We're determined to push this as far as we can, sending a clear message that such behavior is utterly unacceptable."
