After the Montreal GP, Tom Pidcock knows what to expect from the World Cycling Championships in two weeks

For Tom Pidcock, the GP Quebec and GP Montreal are now over. The British rider from Pinarello-Q36.5 was up to the task once again, finishing fourth and sixth, respectively. He’ll likely be satisfied with those results, knowing that just two weeks ago in Val di Sole, Italy, he became the mountain bike world champion and only switched bikes after that.

In Montreal as well—where the World Championships were held two weeks later—Pidcock was also in contention for a medal. At the crucial moment, on the final lap of Mont Royal, even he couldn’t keep up with Paul Seixas (Decathlon CMA CGM) and Isaac del Toro of UAE Emirates-XRG, the eventual winner.

On Friday, Pidcock still made an impression by finishing fourth behind the breakaway trio. “That was a tactical race. The breakaway that got away was initially a fairly weak attack, as is often the case. But after that, no one could catch up to them anymore. I had good legs, but tactically speaking, it was going to be a tough race today anyway,” he said after the race.

"It was a tough day right from the start," Pidcock said of Sunday's race in Montreal. "The first six or eight laps felt like they lasted six hours, and only then did the race really get going, and I actually started to feel better."

"I went on the attack a few times early on, probably sooner than some of the other guys. On this course, you really need to have strong legs for the last two laps. Seixas and Del Toro showed today that they were the strongest," he says.

"It was an incredibly tough race, and the World Championships are going to be extremely competitive. I was up front and racing, so it was definitely worth coming here," says Pidcock, seeing the value in his trip.
