Jonas Vingegaard cleverly held on to the red leader’s jersey in Ceres on Monday during the Vuelta a España. The Dane from Visma | Lease a Bike finished third on the stage, behind David Gaudu (Groupama-FDJ) and fellow countryman Mads Pedersen. During his cooldown ride, Vingegaard gave a brief reaction in the flash interview.
“This is a good result,” said the Dane. “It was a tough finish after a difficult day, so I’m happy we got through it well. David Gaudu gained a few seconds, but a third place and four bonus seconds for me aren’t bad either.” Vingegaard also took over the green jersey.

Vingegaard didn't even think about the stage victory

Vingegaard once again showed his strength on an explosive uphill finish. “But I wasn’t thinking about the win. Pedersen is very strong, and I didn’t feel like I could get past him. I was really struggling just to hold his wheel,” he admitted.
“In the final corner, David divebombed us… that was quite a move, but that’s cycling,” Vingegaard added about the bold overtake by stage winner Gaudu, who now sits on the same overall time as Vingegaard. On Tuesday, he’ll have to defend his red jersey during the longest stage of the Vuelta, which includes some early climbing in the first half of the day.
