In the aftermath of the major crash in the opening stage of the Tour of Valencia, much of the attention went to Lidl-Trek leader Mads Pedersen. But Tobias Foss (INEOS Grenadiers) will not forget that day any time soon either. While Pedersen has already put Milano-Sanremo behind him, the Norwegian was only able to ride outdoors again for the first time on Monday. Foss shared the positive update on his own
social media. “Medical update: what we initially thought was a broken shoulder blade after the crash in Valencia turned out to be much more serious: multiple broken ribs, a broken collarbone, a punctured lung and a fracture in part of a vertebra.”
That is no minor setback. Far from it. “It has been seven tough and painful weeks, but on Monday I was finally back outside on the road and able to resume training,” said the former Jumbo-Visma rider, who understandably posted a smiling photo from his first outdoor ride since February 4, the day of the opening stage in Valencia.
Tobias Foss hopes to make his return at Amstel Gold Race
“The medical team at
INEOS Grenadiers has taken fantastic care of me and helped get me back on my feet as quickly as possible. With my little mate keeping me company on the sofa, the days flew by,” Foss added, also sharing a photo of his loyal four-legged companion.
“I’m going to use the coming weeks to build my body back up, and hopefully I can restart my season at Amstel!” concluded the motivated Norwegian, who is therefore aiming to return to racing in mid-April.
