Will Jonas Vingegaard win the Giro with hairy legs? Aero king Victor Campenaerts is lost for words!

Jonas Vingegaard is well on his way to winning the Giro d’Italia, but the Dane from Visma | Lease a Bike also caused a bit of a stir in the background with his body hair. First there was the moustache, which has now disappeared, and now his leg hair is doing the talking. Danish Eurosport interviewer Anders Mielke asked teammate Victor Campenaerts for comment.

Campenaerts is naturally regarded as the aero king of Visma | Lease a Bike, and by extension of the whole peloton. But even he could not offer a useful explanation for why his leader is riding around in the pink jersey with fuzzy leg hair.

“I have no good explanation for it,” the Belgian said, before trying anyway. “Short hairs can have an advantage, but his are too long.”

Mielke then pointed to Campenaerts’ moustache. “I even tested it in the wind tunnel. Anything that does not make your face bigger does not matter. At first I had more of a beard, and that made me slower,” said the super-domestique.

Could Vingegaard’s moustache attempt have had something to do with that too? “He tried it well, but then realised for himself that it was not really going to happen,” said the Belgian.
