Tom Pidcock indicated the day before the Tour of Switzerland that he wanted to make progress in time trialing, which he immediately had an opportunity to do on day one. The young Brit eventually finished just within the top fifty, in 49th place, in Einsiedeln.
One would think that someone with Pidcock's talent and status would not be entirely satisfied with that result, but nothing could be further from the truth. "I felt pretty good on the bike," he cheerfully told IDLProCycling.com, among others, after a refreshing shower.
"I've worked well on my time trial position, but this wasn't a course suited for someone weighing 60 kilograms," Pidcock explains his satisfaction. "No matter how much time I lost, it is what it is. I rode well, the power output was as expected. So, it's a step in the right direction."
"The time trial is one of the most crucial aspects for a general classification rider," he explains his decision to focus more on that discipline. "At the beginning of the year, I didn't have much time to work on my time trial position, but we were able to dedicate a few days to it in Tenerife. It's nice to see that it paid off, despite the time I lost."

Pidcock also aims to showcase himself in the mountains during the Tour of Switzerland

In addition to time trialing, the INEOS Grenadiers leader also wants to make an impression in the high mountains. "I think it's a great race to find out where I stand, especially in the mountains," he told this media outlet the day before the Tour of Switzerland. "Last season, I got COVID-19 during the Tour of Switzerland before we got to the mountains, so I also want to see where I stand in that aspect."
