- Waerenskjold’s right about not fighting for Merlier’s wheel. But saying “hope he gets boxed in” feels a bit soft. Uno-X have the horsepower—hit the final km earlier and make it messy. Vamos, Søren!

- Not sure the piece gives Kooij enough credit. He smoked stage 5 and his top speed rivals Merlier’s when the run-in is chaos. If Visma nail the final corner, Olav can absolutely beat him.

- Quick one: how strict is the time cut on a medium mountain stage like 10? If Merlier only just made it, does that usually zap the legs for two days, or can sprinters bounce back by stage 11?

- Love Teunissen’s honesty: “he’s just the fastest.” Astana’s lead-out for Kanter has been tidy though—2nd, 4th, 9th in that field is no fluke. If Max gets clean air at 200m, podium again for sure.

- Merlier is on another level right now. Two clinical wins after that Kooij opener, and still makes the time cut on stageIf he recovers enough for stage 11, good luck passing him in a straight drag race.

Even if Armstrong wasn't a cheater, even if he didn't attempt to destroy the lives of other human beings (not unlike the lawfare that Trump is waging against those who have tried to hold him accountable), I would still find him to be completely insufferable. Last year, I tuned into the show once to see if he or Wiggins or Hincapie had any meaningful insights into the stage I had just watched. They didn't. But while the other two were tolerable, especially Hincappie, Armstrong was all about bloated posturing and self-promotion. I couldn't shut him up, but I did close him down.

- Short climbs, high chaos, perfect for a puncher like Seixas. Stage felt more Flandrien than pure mountain. Grande journée pour le jeune Français, vraiment top.

- Not sure I buy the “let Jonas ride” bit — felt more like Jumbo/Visma (Visma | Lease a Bike!?) didn’t have the numbers and Seixas was hanging on. Still, fair play, he sprinted for third.

- Love how Decathlon actually raced the finale instead of just hanging on. Prodhomme and Riccitello keeping him in position was clutch. White jersey battle now just 13s to Ayuso… c’est chaud!

- Is “melting asphalt” common in the Tour? How do they decide not to neutralise a descent if it’s that slippery?
