Tragic reminder of how vulnerable riders are, even in training. May Shane’s memory be a blessing, and may his family find strength in the love surrounding them.

My heart goes out to Liam for finishing a stage before receiving such news—unimaginable. Kudos to Lidl-Trek and Cycling Ireland for their support. RIP Shane.

As a cycling fan, this really hits hard. The tributes speak volumes about the person Shane was. Deepest condolences to his loved ones—wishing them comfort and support in the days ahead.

This is devastating news. Shane sounded like a brilliant talent and, more importantly, a kind person. Thinking of Liam and the Camsmajaco and Netcompany INEOS families during this painful time.

Absolutely heartbreaking. Sixteen is far too young. Sending love and strength to Shane’s family, Liam, teammates, and the whole Irish cycling community. May he rest in peace.

- Nordhagen is the romantic choice, but throwing a 21-year-old into Tour pressure right after being sick at Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes feels risky. Zingle intrigues me for stage-hunting and protecting Jorgenson in nervous finales, yet with stage 1 being a TTT, Kelderman’s value goes up a notch. Also, curious if Campenaerts’ engine plus Affini’s can offset some of the WvA loss on flat control. Either way, replacing Wout one-for-one is impossible—Visma will need to re-balance tactics around Vingegaard and Matteo.

- Tough break for Visma right before the Tour. If they want the safest, plug-and-play option, Kelderman feels like the logical pick: solid in the TTT, dependable on flats and climbs, and he’s shown he’s back after the Giro crash. Tulett would strengthen the mountains, but it probably compromises his Vuelta plan. Zingle is the closest profile to WvA for punchy finales, but his TT and pure domestique chops aren’t quite there. My bet: Kelderman gets the nod, Hagenes keeps his spot, and they lean harder on Jorgenson/Kuss in the hills.

Also, respect to Kruijswijk for the honesty: family, kids on holiday, life beyond the bike. It’s refreshing. I’ll miss Wout’s chaos in the Tour, but health first. Here’s hoping he and Steven both arrive in Spain with good legs and better luck.

From a team standpoint, Visma will adapt. They’ve managed absences all year and still remain competitive. It’s a shame for the Tour storylines—Wout animates every stage—but forcing a comeback would be worse. Let the man reset and come back like a wrecking ball in late season.

Classy perspective from Steven. Love how he frames setbacks as part of a long career arc. Also interesting he’s targeting the Vuelta—his steady climbing and experience could be gold for the team there. Switzerland as a tune-up makes sense after that Romandie block.
