The twelfth stage of the Tour de France was marred by a crash in the middle of the sprint. Uno-X had enjoyed a triumphant day the day before with Soren Waerenskjold’s victory, but on Thursday, the Norwegian, just like Jonas Abrahamsen, took a hard fall. Thankfully, both men came away relatively unscathed. Abrahamsen thanks his helmet for that.

Waerenskjold and Abrahamsen had nowhere to go when Fernando Gaviria and his teammates crashed in front of them. Gaviria and Jenno Berckmoes broke their collarbones, but for now, the Uno-X riders have gotten off with nothing more than bruises and scrapes. “But their whole body aches, and that’s never pleasant,” said team manager Hushovd.
After the race, Abrahamsen posted on Instagram about the crash, in which he plowed hard into the barriers. “Sorry to the Tour de France for the broken barriers!” 😬Everything is fine with me and my teammates after today’s crash 😀Thanks to Sweet Protection for the great helmet,” said the Norwegian cyclist, who also posted footage of the incident on his social media accounts.

Abrahamsen and Waerenskjold spoke to Norwegian press after crash

"It went better than I thought. I was probably going 60 to 70 kilometers per hour. I didn't have time to brake. It was a hard crash," Abrahamsen told TV2. "There’s not much you can do about it. Sometimes you fall. It’s the first time I’ve crashed since I broke my collarbone last year. That’s just how it goes."
Waerenskjold also spoke to TV2. “I’ve set a record for scrapes on my butt. There isn’t much skin left there. Will I make it to Paris? We’ll see. There isn’t much left to win, except making it to Paris. I hope I can do it,” concluded the stage winner of Thursday’s bunch sprint in Nevers.
