In the shadow of the Giro d'Italia, this week also sees the
Tour of Hungary taking place.
Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step)
won the opening stage there on Wednesday — but day two produced a moment that had nothing to do with racing and everything to do with wildlife.
A Bahrain Victorious rider and a Soudal Quick-Step colleague were riding at the front of the peloton during a fairly quiet stretch of racing when
a deer suddenly darted out from the left-hand side of the road.
The animal sprinted across the tarmac in blind panic — and promptly fell over, sliding across the road directly in front of the oncoming riders. Fortunately, it was back on its feet on the other side in an instant and was able to continue on its way. So were the riders.
