Jonas Vingegaard was involved in a crash during the final stretch of the fifth stage of the Tour de France. With just over five kilometers to go, part of the peloton went down, including the Danish team leader from Visma | Lease a Bike. Fortunately, the damage—both physical and in terms of time lost—was minimal.

At 5.2 kilometers from the finish—just before the five-kilometer safety zone—a crash was reported in the peloton. Among those involved were Alex Molenaar (Caja Rural Seguros), Michael Matthews (Jayco AlUla), Aurelien Paret-Peintre (Decathlon AG2R), and a small group of riders from Soudal Quick-Step, but Visma's leader Vingegaard was also among them.

Since Molenaar seemed to have taken the hardest hit, it was also a moment of shock for Visma | Lease a Bike. “We heard that Jonas was involved in the crash—or at least in some way. He quickly got a new bike from Victor Campenaerts. The guys were right there and rode hard for him, and in the end, everyone crossed the finish line at the same time,” team director Marc Reef told TV 2 Sport.
However, the Dutch team was aware of the danger. “We knew it was a dangerous turn with a curb on the right. We knew it was coming. I still think we handled the final well, because we all rode together to the finish.”
"Things always get a little hectic after a crash, and eventually Jonas got his bike back from Victor; we rode hard to the finish, and in the end, it didn't cost us anything," Reef concludes. Vingegaard didn’t lose any time in the general classification and can therefore “just” prepare for the important sixth stage of the Tour de France, which goes over the Tourmalet.
